Leakage and unclogging your pipes

Unclogging is one of the most common requests for fixing. Immediate damages of leakages could usually be stopped by taping or covering the leak and placing buckets under it. You might face loss in functionality and comfort for your sanitary water and heating. We believe you are handy but you are not an expert – you have other things to do than being passionate about plumbing. A leakage in your house

A leakage is easy to detect… you cannot miss it and it pops up when you really have other things to do. Although you can interfere to “stop the leaking”, make sure it is fixed, repaired and secured. Get the right support, don’t wait too long after you detect it. The urgency depends on how long the leakage started before you detected it and which other elements in your water circuit could also be damaged – visible or hidden.

Unclogging the smart way

Unclogging is the most classic fixing and often you could solve it yourself. Liquid acid is not always a fast and “easy” option to unclog your pipes.

In general, you should only use acid liquid in case of plastic pipes (usually in a new built housing or renovated house). If you have copper or steel piping it is highly recommended to use either vacuum- or water pressured unblocking. Acid liquid can damage the steel and copper pipes, especially old ones. Of course, there are different liquid acids for different materials and metals – so, if you want to use acid liquid, make sure the chemicals match your material, using the right acid liquid for your specific pipe material.

Fixing your toilet

IT is a classic, you push the flush of your toilet and no water flushes. Here are some hints to check and eventually fix it yourself. Take a look to provide valuable information for your technician in order to fix your problem swiftly.

  1. Do you see water in the toilet or is it dry? If dry, you have a leakage below.
  2. You have water in the toilet but pushing the button to flush does not work? Check if there is water in the reservoir.
  3. Before opening the reservoir, make sure the tube leading to the reservoir is open and water can run into it. For this follow the tube going into the reservoir until a small valve. Move it, if you hear water floating in, problem could be solved. Just wait until the reservoir is fully loaded, then flush your toilet. If nothing changes put the valve back in the original position.
  4. Open the water reservoir and lift the cover plate. You can do this by unscrewing the ring holding the button to flush. Uncertain? One more thing to look for before opening or calling the expert...
  5. Do you have water in the other pipes in your house? Is the problem only in your toilet or do you also face water problems in other locations? Also, check if your central water pipe – probably in the basement is open and if water is floating in your house.

Bathroom and kitchen check-up

  1. If you don't have water in your shower, kitchen or bath, the solution can be easy. A valve is closed in your house – probably in the bathroom itself, under your sink or at your central water supply (usually in the basement).
  2. Open the tap above the valve, then move the valve. See if turning the valve does not solve your problem. If not, bring the valve back in the original position. If the valve is open and that is all there is to say an urgent visit of an expert is highly recommended to make sure your problem is well identified and can be solved then. You can book here
  3. Of course you checked if you have water in the other locations of your house! Is the problem only in one location or is there also no water in other locations? It could be a broken or damaged water pipe which can cause severe damages. Not sure how to check or no time?
